A specialist pollinator-friendly plant nursery

Mothecombe Gardens

Open every Tuesday

Bee Verdant is a nursery rooted within the landscape of the Flete Estate and inspired by the living beauty of Mothecombe Gardens. Created with a commitment to ecological gardening and a deep respect for the natural world, our nursery celebrates plants that work in harmony with wildlife, especially the bees and pollinators that bring our gardens to life.

Every plant begins as a seed and is raised with care and purpose. Our focus is on resilient perennials, grasses, and herbs that thrive in real gardens, enrich the soil, and support diverse ecosystems. We grow what we believe in: plants with substance, longevity, and a quiet elegance that reflects the spirit of Mothecombe.

At Bee Verdant, buying plants is a personal experience. Whether you’re refreshing a border, filling a gap, or looking for something beautiful for the front door, we’re here to share knowledge and guide you toward the right choices. Our approach is thoughtful, expert-led, and grounded in years of horticultural practice.

Visitors are invited to explore Bee Verdant on Tuesdays alongside the opening of Mothecombe Gardens. Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant'
£6.25

Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’

A robust, free-flowering catmint producing soft lavender-blue blooms on tall, airy stems from early summer through to midsummer. Its aromatic, silvery-grey foliage forms a generous, relaxed mound that brings both structure and movement to a sunny border.

Positioned through the middle of a planting scheme, Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’ works exceptionally well alongside other drought-tolerant, silver and blue-toned perennials such as lavenders, salvias and ornamental grasses. It’s a plant that delivers high impact with minimal input, thriving in free-draining soils and full sun.

Beyond its visual appeal, this is a hardworking plant for wildlife. The flowers are rich in nectar and consistently draw in pollinators, making it a reliable choice for bee-friendly gardens, very much in line with how we plant here at Mothecombe.

The foliage is also traditionally used for herbal infusions, valued for its calming properties.

Gaura Papillon
£6.25

Gaura Papillon

An elegant, long-flowering perennial with delicate, butterfly-like blooms that hover above fine, wiry stems from early summer right through into autumn. The soft white flowers, often flushed with pink, move effortlessly in the breeze, bringing a natural looseness to any planting scheme.

‘Papillon’ forms a light, airy clump with slender stems and small leaves, making it ideal for weaving through borders without overwhelming neighbouring plants. It works particularly well alongside grasses, salvias and other sun-loving perennials where movement and softness are key.

This is a resilient, drought-tolerant plant once established, thriving in full sun and free-draining soils. It’s well suited to more naturalistic planting styles and lower input gardens where longevity and performance matter.

A consistent favourite for pollinators, the open flowers provide an accessible source of nectar throughout the season, supporting bees and other beneficial insects.

Verbena bonariensis
£6.25

Verbena bonariensis

A tall, airy perennial with slender, branching stems topped by clusters of soft violet-purple flowers that appear to float above the border from early summer through to autumn. It brings height without heaviness, allowing light to pass through while adding rhythm and structure to planting.

Verbena bonariensis is a defining plant in naturalistic schemes. It threads effortlessly through other perennials and grasses, lifting planting combinations and creating that loose, meadow-like feel seen throughout Mothecombe Gardens.

It thrives in full sun and free-draining soil, and once established is remarkably drought tolerant. Despite its delicate appearance, it is a tough and reliable garden performer, often gently self-seeding to create a more relaxed, evolving planting over time.

From a wildlife perspective, this is one of the most valuable plants you can grow. The nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for bees, butterflies and other pollinators across the entire season.
